To make updates easier, UIDAI has extended the deadline for free online document updates to 14 December 2024. This service is available exclusively on the myAadhaar portal.

Announcing the extension on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI stated:

“UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024 to benefit millions of Aadhaar number holders. This free service is available only on the myAadhaar portal.”

Importance of Updating Aadhaar

Updating Aadhaar details is crucial for ensuring seamless access to government and private services. The Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, recommend updating proof of identity and address documents every 10 years.

UIDAI emphasizes the importance of regular updates to maintain accurate records, streamline service access, and enable hassle-free authentication for Aadhaar-based transactions.

A recent gazette notification highlights this, stating that keeping Aadhaar details up-to-date enhances its reliability as a key identification document. According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB):

“UIDAI encourages residents to keep their Aadhaar documents updated, and the gazette notification reinforces this by urging citizens to maintain accurate and reliable records.”
